A Sound Democracy is a documentary film, which explores the journey of a song, its music and meaning – from the musician who creates it – through the DJ sound system which amplifies it – and which eventually becomes a soundtrack to a volatile, moving mob which creates violence in its wake.

In this age of loud moving, DJ sound systems, who wields the power to control its 12000 Watt throw? How has this phenomenon shaped the reality we strive to maintain in a democratic society?

SYNOPSIS

Music is an intrinsic aspect of human culture which transcends boundaries and resonates deep within our beings. It intertwines with language, evolving alongside us, even reaching back to the earliest bass frequencies that envelop us in the womb.

Yet, the impact of music is not merely auditory; it’s physical when bodies unite with a sound system. Unlike the isolated experience of headphones and speakers, a sound system envelopes around you, sending vibrations that reverberate through your very core. It’s an experience that touches your soul and influences you on a physiological level.

We cannot ignore our Biology.

As you become one with the crowd, your individual identity may blend into a collective organism—a sentient entity of its own. Here, you relinquish your independence, swept up in what we call the ‘mob.’ The mob moves as one, marching to a rhythm and guided by a soundtrack. This unifying force, however, is not inherently for the good; it’s a double-edged sword.
