Conceived and performed by Yuki Ellias, Elephant in the Room is a theatrical homage to Ganesh, among the most popular and revered deities in the Hindu pantheon. Known across the land–whether as Ganapati, Vinayaka, Pillaiyar or another name—the mythology and lore around Ganesh is ubiquitous. Over 60 minutes Ellias offers her interpretation of the fabled boy who was given the head of an animal to which his body did not belong. How does this boy, confused and bewildered in the forest, perceive the dangers that lurk at every turn? How does he deal with the way others see him? Will he find his place in the forest or be consumed by that eternal mass of the living? This quirky tale draws inspiration from Hindu mythology and takes us along on a young boy’s adventure of a lifetime.
